An experimental lab study of interaction between building energy-efficient measures and occupants’ behaviors

About the Project

This project aims to investigate how occupants behave under different energy-efficiency interventions within the Intelligent Human-Buildings Interactions (IHBI) Lab and to better understand the role of human behavior in reducing building energy consumption. By examining a range of occupant responses to alternative energy-saving strategies, the project seeks to evaluate how behavioral choices influence energy performance and identify effective approaches for promoting sustainable energy use in buildings.

To achieve these objectives, the IHBI Lab conducts a series of experiments within a hybrid virtual–physical research environment. The experimental platform integrates immersive built environments, intelligent indoor systems, and advanced data-driven modeling techniques, including big data analytics and machine learning. Through realistic, informative, and engaging interactions, the project aims to encourage energy-conscious decision-making and foster long-term energy-saving behaviors. The findings are expected to provide valuable insights into occupant-building interactions and contribute to the development of more human-centered and energy-efficient building systems.
